Bahluli rug

Qainat, Khorasan, Iran

A colorful and unusual Bahluli rug with a striking red field with four large medallions. Prominently featured in two medallions is an unusual yellow-gold color. The cruciform blossoms in the “main” border, some of which are a strong green, are a distinctive feature of one group of Bahluli rugs. The reciprocal “minor” borders are also a strong feature; the outer one looks like it’s reduced, but seems to be original.
