Baluch bagface 53
Size: 2’2” x 2’3”
Age: last quarter 19th century
Khorasan, Iran
The “Baluch” weavers seem an endless source of variations on themes. Here we see a field pattern of eight pointed stars in octagons combined with unusual large geometric medallions and crowned birds either side of the central star. Highlighted in the central star and other places with insect dyed silk. Lovely wool and colors. Bottom edge stabilized with glue (some dealers used to do this). An attractive and unusual piece nevertheless.
