Bahluli Baluch rug
35” x 46” 2nd half 19th century
A precisely drawn version of a classic Baluch pattern, used by many different Baluch groups, which can be read either as a small octagon with a diamond center made up of four hexagons, or a large octagon made of hexagons surrounding four pairs of opposed birds. This rug, in addition to being woven with the symmetrical knot, displays other trademarks of Bahluli rugs, natural camel wool for the camel pile, a regular weave with slight warp depression, and goat hair wrapped selvage.
