Yomud Asmalyk

Asmalyks were made in pairs to adorn the camel on which the bride would be carried to her wedding. This smaller than usual Yomud asmalyk has fine wool and lovely soft colors, and reasonably seems to pre-date the explosion of “commercial” tribal weaving in the last quarter of the 19th century. As is seen in many related pieces, note the extensive use of “offset” knotting in the bottom main border.

Missing partial borders, areas of wear, but lovely colors and superior materials.
